We are currently bringing in a new skills assessment software for our office application classes. I am anticipating that will give us a good overview of the students hands on capabilities with a specific software. For many years we would test only on the comprehension of the terminology of the software and not the hands on. I believe it is important to measure both areas.
I use both automated and paper based tests.
The paper based provide more flexebility than the automated.
I go back and forth on automated skills assessment for office application classes. Our school offers software that tracks keystrokes to grade student progress through applications. I prefer though to give an assignment and grade them manually so I can allow for different approaches to the same assignment.
Hi Billie Jo-I completely agree - we need to be sure that the student can adequately use the software before they have to use it in the field. Best wishes- Susan
