Corporate Tests

I work and have worked in other places where some or all of the tests are created by the parent company. It is difficult to supply input and have it evaluated and implemented in a timely manner. I have been using some informal, ungraded assessments to help students understand the information prior to "Corporate" tests.

Wow Carolyn- What you have described is critical thinking at its best! No wonder your boss was impressed! This is exactly the sort of " go beyond" skills we need to instill in our students. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career!

Are you referring to tests taken after one has completed and passed the interview process. If so, I took one of these tests for a large corporation and funny thing is I did better than my boss who took it years before (same test never changed). He was so impressed with my score that he treated me differently than the other administrative staff. It was also my first time in a large corporation and I began to ask questions related to the work being done by the individuals I supported and made suggestions to streamline things for them. One thing was I really liked the Bloomberg machine and I suggested I look up and update the group daily instead of the financial analyst getting the numbers. I put this information in our Excel spreadsheet which I learned on the fly and suggested we utilize a particular formula to incorporate the bond ratings so they change all the other columns without having to do it manually all the time. I knew Excel had to have this feature but it was certainly above my knowledge and my boss asked the others and no one knew so I took it upon myself to find the formula which was difficult to find on the Internet back in 1996. Sorry I went on and on but this when you said something about corporate test this is what came to mind.

Hi James- thanks for your post to the forum. I like your idea of how to prepare your students for the "Canned" tests you have to use. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
