Multiple Choice

I prefer to test in mathemtics using multiple choice exams for the sure speed of which I can grade them. I believe that they test at the same lever of rigor as an open ended exam yet I can put my time into going over the results rather than correcting.

Hi Lisa - Thanks for your post to the forum. Multiple choice questions are useful to assess whether students have been able to retain information. Generally, this type of assessment does not require critical thinking skills which is, of course, more challenging. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Do you think that multiple choice questions challenge students enough?

Hi Julie- Thanks for your post to the forum. That's a good approach to taking multiple choice tests - thanks for sharing! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I like the multiple choice test because I tell the students if they arent certian about the correct answer to eliminate the the answers that they are certian it isnt first. This way it narrows the field and they can weigh and access thier options more clearly.

Yes indeed, multiple-choice questions are easy to use and, therefore, it is widely used.
