Evaluation
I like to use a role play to see what information has been retained from lecture and reading materials.
This would be good for a skill based class also. One thing for sure if they are in a group they have to evaluate each other on knowledge, skill, participation and creativity.
HI Charles - Thanks for your post to the forum. Having your students utilize the concepts they are learning through role playing is excellent. It will definitely increase retention of those concepts! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I find that role playing demands some creativity on the part of the students thereby enhancing the effectiveness of the learning process. It is always fun, too!
I like the idea and may use it for my literature class; however, I don't know if it would work in my composition class. I would probably have to have it be aimed at specific lessons and not at composing papers as a whole.
In a literature class, students could pretend to be a character in the short story we are reading and talk to their neighbor as though they are that character. It would help them understand the concept of characterization, I think. Thanks for the idea!
Hi Tanya- Thanks for your post to the forum. I really liked your idea of bringing an "outsider" into a role-playing session. Great strategy!

Role playing is a great way to see what the students have learned/retained from a topic; however, I find that they don't seem to take it seriously because it is between classmates. So to help with this I bring in a different instructor or another student, it seems to help.
