Variety of Types
I like to integrate multiple choice, true/false, short answer, and essay questions into each of my assessments. This way, I feel that I appeal to each different type of test-taker, as well as test the information in a variety of ways, which allows me to get a very accurate view of what the student knows and does not know.
Hi Sonny - Thanks for your post to the forum. Excellent questions! I think that to prepare your students for the certification exams that they need to pass, you need to mirror the format of the exams. But, as we know, our students will be interacting with their customers and collegues which will involve critical thinking skills that are best assessed with essay. My answer is to use a combo of both. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
What do you think of short answers and essay questions into Information Technology program? The majority of IT certification programs are written in Multiple/Choice questions and practical lab exam series. Do we need to follow vendor specific format for our students to follow or short answers and essay questions are still valid for IT program? We have had many discussions about variety of testing methods for IT certification programs and would welcome any input on this subject matter.
After going through this module, I thought that might be a good idea. How do your students like that format?
I do the same thing even when it comes to the students worksheets. I feel the Students like the variety as well instead of just having one or two types.
