I agree. You can test concepts that are not easily using short answer or essay. They can require as much critical thinking as SA or essay.

This is so true, but in some case like in a trade school we need to break down and find basic thoughts or steps. i find that many times multiple choice can confuse. i really like the idea of throwing in fill in the blank. not for alot but just to give the student a chance to put the answer in to their words. I may make grading a little harder but, i tell my students to no bs the answer but try and i will try to see what you are think. So few times i do have to ask the student what the they ment. this is oftten do to the high level of non-english speaking students i have from time to time.
