Selecting testing formats
I like to use multiple choice and true and false, as they both test a wide range of objectives and easier for the students to understand and follow th edirections. Since I teach science classes I also use a lot of labelling of diagrams along with questions.
I tend to like to mix it up abit with my tests.
I usally in include T/F , Multible choice, matching and fill in the blank. I create custom tests using a provided test generator. Then there is no question of the vility of the questions and I am also provided with a list of the pages from the text that the question created from. This saves me from the "What mysterious plant did you get these questions from?" student responce.
Hi Daniel - Thanks for your post to the forum. I like your choice of assessment types for the very reason you shared. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
I use a mixture of multiple choice and short answer. I feel that short answer really lets you see if a student knows the subject matter, as they must explain it in their own words, as opposed to making a "lucky guess" on a multiple choice exam. Ultimately, I think they are both very good ways of testing.
Hi Marie - You are using a nice mix of assessments! The labeling is very useful for the sort of classes that you teach. Best wishes - Susan
