I thing frequent testing on smaller amount of material that was covered in the previous lecture does make the student retain more as they hear the lectue and then they study this material for the upcoming test and get assessed on it, before I go to new material. They do have a midterm and final exam which is more comprehensive. By then they are more confident since they have been studying the information a little at time.

I think regular quizzes are great! Because I think it is a good way to help retain what was recently learned. I personally don't like trading quizzes with other students to check. I find it makes students uncomfortable if their peers see a possible not so great score. I like to add questions that the students have asked in tests.

Hi Christina- Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree that it is important to test regularly (short quizzes are ideal) so that students are aware of their progress. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I completely agree Marie. In all of my less hands on course I like to lecture and support it with various activities using different learning methods, however testing them in small doses, helps build there confidence and allows them a "key" to look at for Midterm and Final tests.
