What to test on?

Test should be on the items that was covered in lecture. Most of the time their shopuld be a review over the lecture; however Quizzes are not in included.

I agree that tests clearly need to reflect material covered in class. Reviews are also important to the success of students. I personally take a great deal of time/effort to develop comprehensive, clear reviews for my students.

I find that if I give an open book quiz then, the next day I give them a test on the same information that the student has less stress while taking the test.

Hi Justin - Thanks for your post to the forum. I assume that you are using questions that will assess critical thinking. ?? Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

My tests are generally exactly what what we covered in class. I like to provide a range of difficulty in my questions. I feel that this helps me to distinguish between students that are capable of critical thinking.

I ask my students for feedback on what to test. As we cover material I assess their understanding and they tell me what they need more time to work on.
