Determining the test format

to determin the test i would use on my students, i would have to watch how well they learn. if theyseem as if they are not fast learners than i wouldn't give a multiple choice test. i would review before test and every now and then give them a answer the blank test to make them think and they would just know things by momery but they would have knowledge of it.

Hi Amy, Are you using a mix of all these assessment types?
Susan

hello
These can be challenging, i do agree. Students always ask. I tell them on lecture and the material in the book

I have tried them all and haven't found one that students like. If I put T/F they groan, Multiple choice I get mixed reactions, completion is worse. It never seems to get any better for me.

Because my class is mostly technical/computer related, I determine my test format based on the material that I will be testing on. If it is something that is better suited to a multiple choice I will do that, but if i find that it is better to test their ability to complete the task, I will give them a hands on assignment and then grade for the number of steps that are completed correctly.

Testing format is always a challenge. Students often ask, "What will the test be like?" and I always say, if you know the material it shouldn't really matter how the question is worded or formated. I do sse from this particular course that it does have some bearing especially if I really am trying to test for complete knowledge of content. I will definately change some of the things I am doing when assessing by students.
