When I create an assessment for my students I always give them a combination of multiple choice, true/false, and fill-in-the blank (short answer. I feel that by giving them a variety I can tell how effective my instruction was as well as whether they know the material or if they are guessing. It also gives me a clue as to how well their study habbits are and whether or not they complete reading assignments or homework.
