My student have become so acustomed to multiple choice test that when I give them an essay type test there is near uprising in the class. What can be done to make students more comfortable with essay questions?

I really enjoyed this module and how it broke down all the different types of tests. In the program I teach, all tests are multiple choice or true/false. The students have to take National Board and State tests which are multiple choice as well.
