Testing Variety

A variety of testing is important I believe so as to call on a broad range of information in different formats. I find that this ensures that the student understands the material but doesn't feel overwhelmed if that particular form of testing is especially difficult.

I'll often use a combination of things on a test just to provide some different aspects of learning.

I tend to base the overall structure of my tests to mirror the type of questions being asked on the registry/licensure exam my students will be taking in order to be a registered sonographer.

Hi Robin, Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree, there are times when essay is just required! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

I agree! A variety of testing tools is a must. Some forms of testing are overwhelming, like the essay form. On the other hand, it tells me what the student understands about a particular topic.

The class I will be teaching have a direct outcome on hands on. Hands on learning and testing is a must for me. However, I have found in the past asking for short answers or essay questions on explain hands on in words can be a new changellen for the students. It also helps them to know and understand what they are saying to patients and what areas they need to remember to communicate the next time.

Hi Lawrence, Thanks for your post to the forum. Application/ hands-on testing is excellent where it is relevant! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Again Zafar I to believe testing should include different formats. I use multiple choice and true/false to test comprehension of taught material. Ill also use matching tests to test glossary and definition retention for the particular topic. I also use alot of hands on type tests to see if the student can apply techiniques to real world issues.
