I agree that this is the criteria to use when designing tests. It is imperative that we evaluate our tests before assigning them to students.

I, too, rely on rubrics for all discussion and writing assignments. The rubrics help guide students in evaluating their own work, too, before submission.

Since I mainly teach English Composition II (research and critical thinking), I use essay writing as the main assessment tool. Students write and then revise a persuasive research paper. The rubric covers essay content/critical thinking, integration of credible sources, and documentation skills.

However, in our live chat sessions online, I use non-graded multiple choice and completion tests to test their understanding and inform both student and myself about their learning progress. Students also have access to self-assessments (multiple choice and completion tests) to use to test their understanding after reviewing course materials on each unit of study.

All in all, I believe that the assessment used should be based on the learning objectives we are testing and should not be "tricky" questions.

I did learn in this module to stop using "None of the Above" or "All of the Above" or "Both A and B".

I like to use a variety of different tests throughout the term. I've found some content areas are better for Essays than True and False and vice versa. I will hand it to the publishing companies especially Pearson Publishing for giving instructors a great resources for creating tests and having a selection of review questions and digital products that help the instructor.

I have been using multiple was of testing,true and false, multiple choice. I also use a lot of fill in the blank which is good for Medical Terminology. I did get some good tips though and am going to change up some of my tests.

I usually incorporate multiple choice, matching, completion, short answer, and 1 essay question. I find that using different question types, accurately assesses students' knowledge.

It depends on the content being taught. If we are talking about anatomy class it usually a multiple choice test. If I am testing a positioning class I use a skills assessment test.

i try and figure out what would benefit the students in the subject, i teach automotive so hands on is key.

For my classes, it depends what class it is before deciding on a format. I do like to use a combination of multiple choice, true/false, and matching. Ultimately, it depends on the class.

If the class has material that can be tested on a practice ,I combine an oral and a practical exam in writing that allows them to identify what are the areas where more study is needed.

I use standerized multiple choice and also hands on.

I agree, clinical classes need critical thinking,
but basic knowledge classes need the type of questions that recall informations.

It is essential to gear exams to the make up of a particular class.

I somewhat base this on the class itself taking into consideration the learning types and the content. i feel it is important to take all these into consideration. I don't feel it is my position as an instructor to fail any student but to assess their knowledge and help them move forward and build themselves.

Depends on the class I am teaching. I like to use multiple choice and matching the best because I feel like they have to learn and know the information instead of guessing. If teaching a clinic or lab I like to use competencies.

I first consider the type of class that I am teaching. My classes are generally hands on or skill set, so for the academic side I would utilize the multiple choice test mostly due to the fact that it gives me the option to incorporate more content. For the skills part, they would be tested on real life demonstration of procedures.

I use testing formats that compliment the course material. If the course was a course full of factual or skill based concepts then I used a Multciple Choice or Skills assessment. If the course was more subjective in nature then I will use an essay.
