testing styles
so far this year i have noticed that just like the learning styles of students differ, so do the test taking abilities. beyond the matter of studying, it never fails that certain students will excel with one type of test, ie: written, multiple choice and then get really nervous and struggle through the practical portion of the exam. we try to encourage good study habits, ask questions, seek out extra help, tutoring, office hours, practice at home etc., in order to be best prepared for the exam.
Testing is a concept that can be frustrating for both instructor and student. Is the test out dated, did the instructor cover the material being tested, can the students language skills ensure proper comprehension of the questions, or is it just a bad time to test this individual due life stresses outside the classroom? As you see I think to much, but my point is this does a particular test really show the students understanding of the material or is there a better way, and if there is a better way, can it be employed in normal classroom setting?
Testing is a great tool as well, to see how different students learning style reflects their test taking skills.
