combination of different types of test.

I think better to combine different test questions like multiple-choice, true/false ,matching, and completion type in the singe test .

I prefer tests with questions in different forms. These tests break up the monotony of straight multiple choice or true/false and some students are better with certain types of questions.

I tell the students at the beginning of the course that periodic testing will involve different types of tests. This makes the majority of students prepare/study more for the tests.

Hi Etibar, Thanks for your post to the forum. A comprehensive assessment such as you describe, is a good choice. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

During the course i ususally using a combination of different types of the tests. At the end of the course to summarize their knowledge I prefer essay and slills application test in the lab.It works.

I have discussed this with my students in each of the various classes I teach. They do seem to prefer a mixture of multiple choice and true/false. I also like to add some short answer questions as long as they are direct and we have gone over them thoroughly. Another technique both students and myself enjoy are the addition of bonus questions: They consist of comprehensive short answer questions, opinion related issues and/or a creative opportunity to express knowledge of real-world application.

I do as well. Some educators may assume combination can be only used for certain subjects but I believe its a great way to prepare your students for all types of testing and maybe prevent some of the testing anxiety that comes with standardized testing.
