test

I use problem solving test to see how well the student can function in the field by them self. I other test to test their knowledge of the subjects. At the end I put them all together to see how the student is doing

Multiple choice helps students alot on exam versus essay questions

With the multiple choice questions, you should look at the level of difficulty. You can't have too many of the easy questions. Moderate-difficult are best. It forces the students to at least evaluate different concepts. Upon the evaluation of these concepts, they must arrive at the answer based on the concepts. We can't always do fill in the blanks, although it does measure content conception much better. Is there anyone that thinks a whole fill in the blank test would be best?

The multiple choice test should be blue printed to see what level it is produced at, is it application, does one apply analysis?

Sometimes multiple choice does not give the student a chance to really think about the question and problem solving lets you know if they really understood the material
