Negative/Positive Grading Video

Does anyone know anything more about this? I'm not sure I understood about when an instructor would give negative points. Assessing a student's participation as a "Detract from learning" is not clear to me.

It seems like an interesting way to control the classroom environment and maybe worth trying for the control of distracting electronic devices. But I just do not like to use methods like this when working with adults. The goal should be to engage the learner so that the negative behaviors do not happen in the first place.

This is my first time hearing this called "negative/positive" grading; however, I have been using a looser form of it for years to evaluate my students' class participation.

On the first day of class, I discuss with my students the ways in which they can contribute positively to the class environment, as well as the ways they can harm the class atmosphere. I address the same kinds of things that were mentioned in this video.
