tests

I typically incorporate a combination of multiple choice and true/false questions in my tests. In my next class, I plan on introducing questions that require fill in the blanks or short essay responses. From what I've heard and read, its more effective to diversify the questions.

I also use different types of tests and change the format with each exam. It keeps my students sharp, on their toes and shows me how well they are absorbing the material. Most of my tests have a variety, multiple choice, fill-in the blanks and true or false all in one test. My students know they will not get the same type of tests each time.

i have to agree here, i have used true false and somtimes they are not the best way to see what the student has learned.

Hi Richard, Thanks for your post to the forum. That is an effective way to assess higher order thinking skills. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

I have a similar approach. I also have a variety of essay questions that the students can choose from (i.e. 4 need to be completed bue 6 are offered as options). I also incorporate a portion of the exam that requires them to execute specific tasks; show their competency in the acquired skill sets.
