Assessments
Can demonstration and factual assessments be combined together?
Hi Kevin, Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, for classes like yours, application is the true test of learning. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Perhaps a good example of this might be as it relates to my class in radio broadcasting. I can test them through multiple choice questions on the different attributes of a good commercial. But, assessing their overall knowledge of the material involves them sitting down, making the "concept" of a commercial (to determine an approach that would best sell the product), scripting the spot, then taking it into a studio to produce it, using voiceover techniques, creative use of music, sound effects and editing in order to produce the finished product.
Hi Terence, I think you are referring to application or skills assessment combined with theory/ content assessment. Yes, they can, and often should, be combined.

Yes, you can test students on the knowledge of facts by using multiple choice questions and then you can ask them to show what they learn by demonstration, for example nursing students can answer the questions about a procedure and then demonstrate the procedure.
