Balance of your learning and students learning

Right now i'm in school for my second BA, Does anybody find it hard to balance your school work with that of what you teach to your class? if so whats a good way to find that balance (aside from having schedules)

I like to think I am always learning. The students I deal with usually have questions that can provoke me to find out what their answewrs are. This helps me to coninue my education and learn almost every day.

Hi jason!

But isn't learning great and gratifying? I find that if I am challenging and making appropriate assignments for students we're learning together. Such a great experience!

Keep up the good work and keep learning!

I haven't figured it out yet either. At one point I could be teaching what I just myself learned that day and juggling it all can be difficult. I try to stay a step ahead of the instuctor.

I agree with that statement completely. Having recently completed my degree while working and teaching full time; I found that it made me so much more in tune to all the extra stressors students can have on their learning experience. I found I was much more open to discussing ways to help them with their stress having been through some of the same things they have been through myself. I believe that it was a great experience and something I can always pull from when teaching students who feel the pressure is becoming overwhelming.

That's a lot of things to juggle. A couple of thoughts come to mind.

1) Make a to-do list but not the kind you normally make. Include on the to-do list not only what you will do but also best case at how long it will take. Put these items on your calendar and don't over schedule what you can accomplish in the time you have to prepare for both.
2) Check your to-do list and make sure that you have listed tasks not projects. If something has more than one step, it is a project and should be listed as all the steps, not just one big vague one.

I only take one class at a time. I find that having a class as a student helps me stay attuned to their needs in the five classes I teach.
