I try to make my students feel comfortable on day one....Letting them know not to be afraid to ask questions...

I do the same thing. I also visit our student externs, and always invite them to call me and ask questions. Also, I have been changing-up my advice to them to be more of a questioning technique, rather than a "preaching" technique. I think it is better accepted and still can achieve the same result. For instance, "How do you think you could have handled that better?" Or "in hind-sight what could you have done to better communicate?"

I try to make students comfortable on the first day by giving them my perspective when I was in their position. I ask for students to write down their expectations of the course and review them on my own and try to achieve what they want.

COULD NOT AGREE MORE,I LET THE STUDENTS KNOW THAT I AM STILL ONE OF THEM,LEARNING EVERYDAY,MY MOTO...IF YOUR NOT LEARNING YOUR NOT LIVING.

I always incourage the students to ask the questions and let it be a open forum at times with the other students

Hi,
agree the most. Praise is a must to motivate student's learning. But within a limited time and so muh to teach, the student insttructor exercises
should be limited accordingly.

everyone agrees that the students needs to be in a relax enviroment so he can have a better learning AND i belive that another important thing is to let them mesure their progress with constant feedback on all the good areas and areas of improvement

i agree, students learn best when in a relaxed environment.

I mention that some one other may have the same question and they are just as likely to be afraid to ask it also. I say there is never a silly quiestion only the one that is not asked. We all do not know it all and we can only learn from asking the questions.

i think this is a must, it makes them willing to open up and learn.

And we should also be asking students questions. It seems like when you do that, it makes it easier for the students to ask questions themselves.

BRAVO Donald!

Would you please share some of your strategies used in your classroom for achieving positive student outcomes?

Being relaxed is important in the learning process. If you're up tight, your brain has built up a resistance to material presented, because you're on the defensive.
I try to get my students to relax, and enjoy the class, and once that has been accomplished, their minds open up like a sponge to soak in all they can. I try to build their self confidence, as this is one of the biggest obstacles they face in anything new. Praise for a task well done does wonders for their self esteem, and it makes them want to tackle the next task with vigor.

Hi Brian!

Sounds like you are in tune with your students?

Something that I have done in the classroom is allow students to be the "instructor". It is amazing what can be learned both by the student and the instructor. Most of the time the students are very cleaver and creative in their approach.

Keep up the good work!

I try to make students feel at home in the class and encourage them to ask question for the may not be the only one who needs to know.

i remind the students that they are here to learn and that asking questions is apart of that and if they have a question than there is probly some one else in the class with the same questions but somebody needs to ask it or nobody would get the clearification on the topic at hand

Definately true! Allowing the students to be at ease allows the to be more receptive to you and the material you are delivering to them.

I believe that making the student feel comfortable is very important yet even more so if you get the students to believe that you truly care about what you are teaching them and you care that they learn as much as you can teach them than everybody relaxes and off you go!

I agree and do the same but I try to keep them that way all thru the class 3 weeks.

i find that making the students comfortable with asking questions will open the door for the studets that might be uncomfortable with speaking in public or afraid to ask the questions that they need to ask for them to grasp what is being covered in class
