Difficult students
I sometimes find those difficult students are looking for attention. Si i have leanred when to provide the attention or when to move on and not bring the center of attention to that person.
Earline,
I think this is a great strategy that can help redirect these students.

I agree that most difficult students are seeking or need attention. I then use them as group leaders to turn that negative and difficult behavior into a positive.
Kristina ,
those open-ended questions are a great way to get participation from many.

I will ask open ended questions so they will particpate.
I usually ask their opinions on all of the topics being discussed in class.
Tiffany,
yes & sometimes helping these students see how they are a distraction can help reduce these behaviors; sometimes.

I also agree, these students are looking for attention and want to be center stage but what they do not realize is they are being disruptive to other students who are trying to learn as well. You have to find the right time to let them have their time and when not to. I have a student who has a comment for EVERYTHING and most of the time I try to just cut him off at the pass before he gets started.
Pauline,
I agree that we need to try & make sure they feel part of what we are doing.

True, I also learned to engage those students to make them feel like a part of the class.
