Informed, Not An Expert

The best balance for an instructor in an accelerated learning environment is to be informed and curious. Being knowledgeable makes the classroom steady. Being curious makes the topic seem like something of a fun challenge to everyone, including the instructor.

David,
yes, this idea sharing is great & also helps demonstrate this value to the students.

Some of the practices we adopted in lab were techniques we observed students using, techniques that really saved time and energy.

Brian,
and this helps the students see that you are willing to learn from them & then they are more willing to learn from you.

My students are usually up to date on the latest import vehicles. This is not a subject of great interest to me so my knowledge is limited. I like to trade stories with them and compare them with domestic vehicles.

Charlene ,
our students really do like to know that we are continuing to push ourselves & to grow along with them.

It is exciting for me and for my students when we can see each other learn: I let them know that in our field we are always learning because there is always some sort of constant change.

Every day we should learn something new even from our students no matter how much we think we know.

elizabeth,
this is a great approach & a good demonstration to our students.

I always try and let my students know that just because I am an instructor, I do not know every little thing about pastry. Learning should be something that is part of every day, and that if I ever get to the point where I don't fel like I have anything left to learn I will know it is time to move on into another industry.

It does help to be informed and still always willing to seek out new ideas and ways of doing better in your area. The students like to see you learning new things too.
