Learning
I feel that my students learn best when asked questions following and during lecture.
how do you engage in the shy student? Is it ok to request that every student interact in class?
Q&A sessions in some ways allow students that understand the subject matter to provide an instructor another source/avenue to help others comprehend the topic.
Elisa,
this is a great strategy & the short lectures with breaking it up is a great plan.

When lecturing, I try to limit the amount of time per topic (roughly 20-30 minutes) so I don't lose the students attention.
I use several methods to encourage student learning, participation and retention of material. They include the following: Q&A sessions, completing worksheets alone or in groups, and playing games such as Jeopardy or Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
I try to encourage my students to participate in discussions after I cover a each important topic and it helps them to retain the information. We also play games which they love, such as Family Feud or Jeopardy. They can be very competitive and they retain the information better.
Kristal,
yes, the periodic question & answer sessions are a great way to keep the students engaged with the material & the learning moving forward.
