the instructor
they play A VERY BIG PART IN LEARNING, WITHOUT THE INSTRUCTOR,NOONE LEARNS.
Teaching magnetic particle inspection and underwater welding, I find that as the student begins to struggle with class material, an entertaining story from my experience in the field does help bring students back into focus.
Teaching future health care workers, I feel it is important to share my experiences as a clinician to illustrate hoe the covered material relates and applies in a real world setting
The Instructor is key in relaying information about subject matter.
Some students can tell the stories that are unbelievable.
Using real life examples does help my students grasp the concepts the book is teaching them. I've noticed a better understanding of the material when you have a solid example to go with it.
I like to call the stories I relate to the students my war stories. I present them in a light hearted manner, but the intent is to share experiences that can be learned from by the students. I then ask them to relate similar stories.
In my adult learning class, i have found that relating real life experiences in my field can motivate the students of all ages to be more involved in the subject at hand.
