music in the class
i find when students work in groups and listen to soft music at there tables on there lab projectcs it keeps them engaged.
Oh clearly Anne, instructors have to be very sensitive to finding the best time to integrate music into the class.
Good job!

I agree but when the students are about to finish there progect they are working the music becauses a distraction.
I agree that music can make for a better overall experience in the classroom. It can keep students motivated and can also help facilitators by drawing less attention to every little detail of discussion that goes on while in the learning envirnment.
I couldn’t agree more. I teach a lab class and find that where there is music students are more relaxed and able to perform better. I also prefer having a boom box playing softly in the background to the students iPod’s etc as this way when I make an announcement in class, I can be sure that I have everyone’s attention.
Hi Tony!
You have made some very valid points. In my opinion, most important that the institution approves the use of music. However, I don't think that it is necessary that all instructors use music. That decision should be discretionary.
The few articles/studies that I have read indicates that music is becoming more common in the workplace.
But I do think that the comfort and needs of students is important in making the decision to use music in the classroom
Keep up the good work!

When using music as a means of behavior control, it's important to remember it becomes an accepted part of the learning enviorment.By that I mean that should other instructors not use this method, it can create a conflict with the class as they have grown accustomed to background music. Also, as students leave the world of learning and move to the business world, background music may not be acceptable.
Music not only helps the students relax but, it makes me relax more. And if the students see the instructor relaxed they're more likely to be relaxed themselves.
I love using music in the classroom. Hardest thing we have encountered other than copyright is managers that think it is distracting.
i use music also to help create a fun and enjoyable learning enviorment
I find that music and students working in groups of 2 work the best for me.
