Good point Chad!
Just a reminder that music must work for ALL students?

Hi David!
You are absolutely correct! We can learn acceptance of change if we are open to it.
Keep up the good work!

I find that a little backround music helps the day move along and really takes the studendts focus of the clock during some otherwise monotanous activities.
Music is a universal language that makes many people relax, and to be able to "listen" while doing lab tasks may not only help relax, it may cause an association between what they are doing and the information learned in another form. The human brain is an amazing organ...
In the lecture section of my class, music would be impossible. During the lab activities, I allow the radio to be turned on as long as it is playing music accepted by the entire class.
Usually during our lab environment I will play music from an old and gold station. The purpose for this is twofold. Since we have a diverse age group at our institution, when I hear a really old song come on I will ask the class if any one can identify who sings it and what year it was popular. If no one is able to do so I get to ask a test question to see if they understand the material I've covered during lecture. If they do quess the artist and year, then they get to ask me a question that will be on one of three test we take. Quess what? This ia a review in disguess and at the same time almost all enjoy the game. Sometimes they reverse it on me to see if I can identify newer artist of today, and they are presently suprised when I'm successful. Most even say that they never would have thought that some one my age would known.
I am not in a program that allows me to play music. My field experience agrees with your statement, Richard. I have had students actually break into song during thier lab activities, which I recognize as stress relief.
