Classroom

I think the color sugestion and the classroom layout is a good idea looking at each other is far better than looking at the back of each others head

I agree. If students have to ability to face one anohter then they are more likely to engage in discussion.

Hi Rose!

The more comfortable we make learning, the more successful teachers/instructors will be.

I like some of the things that are said in the following.

Happy reading and keep up the good work!

I agree with you about the layout. Students facing each other helps encourage discussion.

Hi Brandon!

I like using color in a classroom, having displays and extra subject related materials. I use colored pencils, markers and paper anytime that we are working in groups. I actually assign groups by colors.

Good job!

I agree. And if there is a link between more colors and learning then I feel we should utilize this. Might make our jobs of teaching just a little bit easier.

One of the things I noticed with all the diagrams of classroom setup used in this module was that class sizes were limited. I think that is an important point to stress that class size will largely influence the environment.

For that reason, if I am facilitating a course that is largely dependent upon discussion to reach its learning objectives, I like to have a group of about 20 students. I find that size lends itself best for collaboration (and healthy group competition) while keep the limiting the cacophony brought about by large class sizes.

Christopher

I agree we should try this

I teach in a colorful room. I have noticed this helps sets the mood.

Hi Timothy!

I like students to be able to see each other as well. For one thing, it creates a less formal environment and, it also, takes the focus off the instructor.

Good job!

I'd agree completely. I remember all those years of sitting in traditional classrooms and lecture halls, all of us facing the same direction with nothing except the teacher to engage our attention.

I think that when students can see each other's faces rather than the teacher's they can't help but learn better.

Referring to the classroom layout, I believe that it depends on the classroom population. Some of the students that I teach tend to distract each other for various reasons, whether they just want to talk or laugh and interact. This can become distracting to students around them who are trying to learn. I believe that this method can work, but with mature students who can handle the environment.
