Lighting

In delivering lectures, its essential that the learner has enough lighting to enable him write I think the normal flourescent lighting is allright. As for videos, deeming the light permits the students to see better. Simply deeming the light makes the environment calmer for the students. Total darkness is an invitation for some students to sleep

Sometimes dimming the lights at the front is better for visuals but doesn't hinder the student's ability to take notes.

Yes, indeed, that has happened to me before, but I feel that it is sometimes necessary for me to dim the lights especially when I am showing a video, or using powerpoint presentation. Everytime i do not dim the lights, my students seem to have trouble seeing what's on the screen and they tend to get confused and lose interest.

Lighting will depend upon the task at hand. Normal classroom lighting is OK for writing on the board, lecturing and discussions. When using overheads, the classroom should be darken, but not completely dark. If possible, turn off the lights near the screen.

My class meets at night, and many powerpoints are necessary. I try to keep at least one light on, as total darkness does put people to sleep, especially since a lot of my students have already worked a full day at a job. I stop every ten minutes or so to walk around and discuss what we have viewed, but it is a constant challenge.

Truly agree. Need to have a mood light in the room. At times that to can cause sleeping students

Yes, I believe that having a good lighting in the room help the student a lot, also keep them awake, I personally like rooms with windows, the natural light is very good to stimulated the brain.

Unfortunatly, not all classrooms have dimmable fixtures. Having a projector with adequate power can help in not having to darken the room as much, keeping the student awake, and hopefully motivated.

I also think proper lighting is essential for students. However, I try not to dim the lights at all because there will be at least one student who believes it is nap time and we cannot have that.
