music in class
you need to find a type of music that everyone in the class will listen to. Also you need to check with your management team to find out if the music you choose is appropriate and legal to play.
Teresa,
First of all, congratulations on being willing to try something new. Secondly, I know there is some research out there pertaining to music and test taking. I'm sorry I can't direct you more than that, but you should be able to find some info.

I have never thought of using music in a classroom, but I am going to try it. My massage therapist uses realxing music when I have a massage and I find it greatly enhances the experience. I would be interested in knowing more about this subject. And if music during exams would work.
I find that we as instructors do need to find a genre of music that makes our students enjoy there class during lab something upbeat. during parts of demos something mellow has worked for me it seems to help the students focus.
I think music in lab is uplifting. I, as the instuctor choose a station thet I believe everyone can enjoy and plays a variety of songs. I know this as the music plays, and different songs come on, whatever music appeals to that student they sing quietly along. It does give the class a more upbeat attitude.
Seems to calm stuedents down and help them focus on the task at hand
I really believe that it depends on what type of class you are teaching. If you are teaching a class that lab work with lots of hands on learning, then music can be appropriate. If you are teaching a class that requires critical thinking then I still feel music would be appropriate. You just might want to play softer music.
I don't know if music in the classroom is appropriate.
I have always found that a class will never agree on what style of music to play. They usually want to play a personal CD, which is copyrighted. I find the whole copyright infringement ridiculous, you can play copyrighted music at certain places but not others IE: bars OK, school not OK.
music in class....most of the time i dont want to hear it.but i dont want them wearing headphones so they cant hear.or playing there own device and arguing about whats on it.do we need mmi intranet stations?
Greetings Scott!
How do you use music in your classroom?
