Antonio,
The use of music is a great way to relax the class & open the door for learning.

I also say, “Music makes the world go ‘round†but it also makes learning happen, but always depens the moment and what kind of music.
I agree, I use very soft, Instrumental " relaxation" music during non lecture & demonstration time
kellie,
and there are so many varieties that can be used for many different reasons.

i will need to try the music as well. Its true.. it helps me and sets my tone for the day..why not the students?
Music is a great tool for the classroom. Music while student are entering sets the mood and fills the air of awkward silence. I also place soft classical music or piano very low in the background during test taking. This helps with focus.
Mauricio,
it is definitely a personal choice.

I dont like to use music in my classroom (cooking lab) becuase irt distracts the students. I have never worked in a kitchen where they play music
This is something that I have always wanted to try, but just haven't implemented. I think on Monday I am going to play music as students enter the classroom.
I have never tried music in the classroom. After this lesson, I may have to try and implement it.
I also am going to try this especially in the lab
I believe this is a great idea using music.
I find student memorizing music a lot easier than class work
I never used music because I cannot sing but now I am looking into transition music in my classes
Thought this was interested
The “Mozart Effectâ€
The “Mozart Effect†is the result of research findings. A study was done in which thirty-sixcollege students listened to a Mozart sonata for ten minutes. After listening to the music, the participants scored higher on spatial-temporal tasks, as measured by the
Stanford-Binet IQ test.1 This research suggests that Mozart’s music has positive effects on the brain and its functions.
Sharon,
it's nice to show the flexibility to the students (if the setting & policies allow) in order to help them be as successful as possible.

I absolutely love this idea. I have students who ask to play their own music with headphones while they work in class. I have not experimented with this method, but will the next new semester.
Fortunately I teach music so the choice I make is really the type of music that corresponds to my current topic. I usually choose something they have never heard of to expose them to new ideas.
I think this is such a wonderful idea, that I never would have thought of. I am going to try it.
I have used music in the classroom on many occasions. It is a great starter for early morning classes, helps them to liven up, and keeps them focused for the rest of the class period.
Honestly, I never even considered playing music, but after this session, I think I will try it out during group activities. Didnt realize how music can impact the students energy as well as their thinking.
Shirley,
yes, research has been done to see which types of music is most conducive to learning, etc. We can tap into this to make informed decisions.
