I should have stopped the disruptive paper-throwing situation I had last week and turned it into a positive learning experiance!

yes i agree the throwing paper balls around works, it eases the tention in the room for a review sesion,cause its the student asking questions not the instructor and they dont feel put on the spot when the instructor askes a question.

The "snowball fight"can be a fun review. I like to add the change up of 2 questions, one review and one not on topic. Thwe student who picks up the snowball must answer one of the questions. When I learned this the silver haired womean running the class chose to answer the question of "What was your natural hair color?" which broke the ice in the class.

Thanks for this comment! As a student myself, I remember a paper throwing activity in a classroom that was not well received by most of the students. The problem was that the instructor had not adequately prepared the class for the activity and it became an insult to many. So as with any activity, students should know the rules.

As long as this isnt a daily norm with all questioning, I can see the benefit of this approach. I do feel that if it is repeated too often it could be a break in discipline.

I too have done this with great success. You may want to consider safety glasses as some students can be a little agressive during the "throwing period" I know our safety committee and legal staff require it.

Excellent idea Johnny! this will give the students a sense of anonymity and will also allow for their question to be answered. plus, of course, they'll absolutely love throwing paper at each other. i applaud your innovation and ability to reach out to students in need.

This is a great idea! I have tried in the past just having the students write their questions on a piece of paper and passing them to the front if they do not want to ask the question out loud. This sounds like a much more interactive and fun way to accomplish this.

That is a great idea. This may be a way that I have students do some review before quizzes. It keeps them safe and engages them in some laughter. Both things that improve the learning and retention!

sounds like a great idea and fun too. i tried this today because i can't do any type of review. the students are reviewing themselves
