Name Tent

One of my favorite things to do to get a class going is Oragmi. I have students take an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. I tell them we are goint to do an art project. Everyone looks nervous. Then I have them do two folds (like a business letter). I then tell them they are done with the art project! It's a name tent! I pass out markers and have them decorate the "tent". Students love it.

Many of our students actually have very little self confidence and need to experience success before they relax.

I like the gist of this idea as well. Setting the students up for a successful activity early in the course can be a great confidence builder. Many of our students actually have very little self confidence and need to experience success before they relax.

That is a cool idea. Get their hearts pumping for failure and treat them to an easy ice breaker. In our field, it is tough to do things like that, but now you have my mind racing to incorporate this activity. We do a class introduction about the instructor and their background. The only icebreaker there is showing them how pathetic my first paycheck was and why they are lucky to attend our school!!!
