real life experience
I try to relate to my students how what we are teaching them will effect them later on in there work as a tech. and often ask before I teach a segment if anyone has ever had any experience with it before.
David,
to me nothing can replace those real-life examples as it helps the students see how this information is applied.

I try to use alot of real life experiences for my students during lecture. It turns what can be a boring subject into them trying to relate more with what i am talking about.
Jeb ,
You are absolutely right. And for we facilitators, it's important to recognize that some of the learners might have more info or experience than we do & make sure we honor that.
Ryan
Life experience is one of the most appealing parts of adult education. The fact that the learners might have more information the then facilitator on certain subjects - and that is an acknowledged part of the program makes it something I want to be a part of.
Students like to hear real world war stories from your profession. It gives you credibility, can illustrate important points from the text, and breaks up the lecture.
I find when I share my own real life experiences with my students they better understand the subject I'm teaching
I have over 25 years of experience. I always include real life experiences both good & bad so the students can learn from from them. How to avoid a situation or how to think on your feet to prevent/correct a situation.
Jose, to add to your response. Many students get caught up in the grade element and forget they are being trained for a career in a profession.
For learning adults, sharing real world experiences/examples not only enhance the theoretical teachings of the class, but also add to substance to the learning process. Sharing best practices or even ineffective methods help the student understand situations that may be similar to the situation currently experiencing or even provides alternative solutions to decisions that were previously made and not considered and to avoid making similar mistakes/decisions. By sharing experiences from the workplace, everyone benefits, including the instructor. The instructor should lead the discussion with her own examples/experiences and credit the participation segment of the class requirement for those who share their experiences/examples from the workplace. When agreeing or disagreeing with a segment of the lesson or a comment made by the instructor or student, the student should support her reasoning with an example or a citation/reference from a published article to justify her response/comment.
Hi Shaun!
It provides learning opportunities for both student and instructor, doesn't it? What a great classroom experience.
Keep up the good work!

I love getting feedback from students after I have shared some of my peronal experiences, it allows them to feel comfortable enough to share their experiance with the class.
i try to fill at least 10% of the days learning with real life expamles to keep the students engageged in the learning
I also give examples of life to make them understand Sciene
So true! In my print production classes, I pretend to be the printing company and have the students turn in prepress files as well as good design.
Using real life experiences are so valuable in the classroom. Students seem to absorb so much when they know it came from somewhere applicable. In the Music Industry courses I teach, almost every topic is related to a past experience of mine or one of my students. Not only is it a good learning tool, it also keeps them much more interested and attentive, instead of dry, boring lecture.
Greetings Jose!
Positive reenforcement works 99% of the time.
Good job!

hello Said,
I totally agree, I think it's important for an instructor to constantly remind the students that the skills they are learning will affect their professional life experience in a positive way, I also find that by relaying this information they will remain more focus.
I think real life experience enhances the class
That is a great aproach to your class I do the same thing.
