Group learning

Groups as a learning style is a great training style. I feel that this needs to be monitored close as often there are students involved that do not work well in groups and may need a slightly different role to engage in this type of traning

Tri,
and it's also a great way to help our students develop their soft, interpersonal communication skills.

Group learning is quite interesting because it gives the teachers have a chance to watch how their students express & discuss the topic all out among themselves at a different level than they discuss the topic with instructors.

Fantastic Terri!

It's rare that I hear positive group outcomes. It sounds like you have a very positive approach to the process and have been able to convey that to your students.

Keep up the good work!

Hi David!

How do you help students stay on topic?

Thanks,

All of my students learn in a group. They learn how to work together with each other and also with others outside of the classroom. The obstacles encountered are great learning tools - which they not only learn how to solve individually, but with their classmates. They also learn about the strength of working together as a team.

Group learning is good as long at they stay on the topic. Also it helps to have input from each other.

Hi Melanie!

You are absolutely correct! Group work is definitely part of the real work world.

Keep up the good work!

I think group learning is vital to the real world. You never get to pick who you work with so might as well learn that way. It will make things easier in the future

Group learning is another form of team building. Students have to learn to get along with everyone else because in the real world everyone is working to achieve their personal goals; e.g. buy a house, take a vacation, pay bills. Differences & conflicts should remain outside the work/school environment. You cannot choose your coworkers. Everyone needs their job so you have to adapt.

Hi Regena!

Then - I believe it can be very challenging for some students that are easily intimidated and not sure of themselves. But it is an opportunity for instructors to help those student to build self confidence through the group process.

Keep up the good work!

I feel group learning does help the students to relax and not feel the pressure is on one individual. Therefore, the atmosphere is more conducive to learning.

I couldnt agree more!
I find group learning imperative to the overall success of the majority of my students. It also aids with the building of a team environment that really can not be replicated any other way.

Hi Sue!

The group process is so important for growth in the work environment as well. Employers are looking for staff who can be a team player leading to specific outcomes.

Keep up the good work!

I agree that group learning does help the stuents to get to know each other and to learn to listen to their ideas and views on the topic.

I think group learning is agood way of learning and help students to participate in the forum, and also get their attention.

Hi George!

You definitely have the right idea about the outcomes should be of group work. It's about reaching a workable solution to the assigned task.

Keep up the good work!

I think group learning is important because it teaches social skills of working together with other people as well as teaching the subject to the learners. They must learn to deal with their obstacles in the group, as well as finish the assigned task.

it also lets someone else become the leader.

I think the idea of switching up the groups periodically is a great one. For one thing it helps break up the groups & also helps the students to meet a broader group.
