I love to be able to play games in my classes, but it's difficult with the situation I have now. We have about a class and a half to go through each chapter, which limits the amount of time I have for doing activities. I try to incorporate videos sometimes, as I know the visual is very helpful and it allows the students to see real-world applications.
Any tips on quick games or activities I could use? I teach psychology to adults.
Thanks!
I too use game based like questions from Jeopardy to review for quizzes and tests on a day to day basis. I have noticed if we review this way all of my students get involved and as an out come will do well on the exams. I also remind those whom I don't hear participating are the ones whom don't do well on their exams.
I use jeopardy as a game with team competition. You incorporate some of the new material into the game, and they compete to see who can win for their team.
Hi Elizabeth!
I would be interested in how it works out for your class. Please let me know.
Keep up the good work!

This time in Mental health I am going to try a charades game and have several students act out the positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia fopr their classmates to identify
Hi Angelina!
All really good games! I like to give student groups the opportunity to come up with games. I have had really outstanding successes with this approach. Students really get into creating the game.
Good job!

i also have limited time for games, teaching anatomy and histology classes. Quick review games just dividing into answering questions by teams can be quick and fun.
i generally play hang man , with words that my students need to know . give each student a guess if they get the letter they have a chance to solve it , if they miss the letter it moves on to the next person . the one who solves it gets a point at the end of the game the one with the most points wins the prize any thing from candy to extra credit .
I really like this idea. I teach a class that lasts 4.5 hours long. The physical aspect is very attractive. This would allow my students to get up out of their seats outside of the normal break time yet they could be actively engaged in the material. I'm going to use this! Any idea where to get a sticky ball?
Awesome! I like this!!
Can you email me more information on how you set this up or anything?

Make the class itself into a game. For one class I turned each session into a sort of game show where answers from the chapter were game questions. I let the students make the rules and by the end of the term every student was engaged in the material.
That was the most effective and fun class I've ever taught.
I too use this kind of approach to reviewing with students, Jeopardy works great as it gets all involved and excited to play and to compete for knowledge.
