USING "BLOOMS"
A good portion of my class has limited computer experience but is required to perform a multitude of exercises using one in order to pass the class (there is no standard of student we will turn away). Using Blooms Taxonomy theory of addressing the different levels of learning is the cornerstone for my classroom presentation. Knowing I will probably not be able to move a good portion of my students past "Application" is a realistic understanding I go in with, however making sure they attain at least a step above simple "knowledge recall/recognition" and are at least capable of "comprehension" of the material is my goal. For a few shining stars "application" is possible with a touch of "analysis". Incorporating the four different learning styles seems to weed out some of the redundant questions up front.

Interesting - Ill have to do some more research on "blooms" process.
Thank you.
Good job Richard!
Learning doesn't have to be fun but it sure makes classroom time much more conducive to learning. Being in a classroom is a real challenge for so many of our students. If learning is a pleasure, then retention can only improve.
Keep up the good work!

Well, if you can reinforce computer applications with something they enjoy--for example taking some time for art, music, or finding a topic they want online, then they are reinforcing their use with fulfillment. A little fun time each day would make the learning more enjoyable and it would probably stick better too.
An excellent approach, Dale! Reenforce, repeat, reenforce, repeat, and reenforce and repect what has just been learned.
Good job!

I like Blooms in that I know where my students are depending on what class level they have reached. In our school we lecrture/discuss/demostrate. then the students duplicate what I have demonstrated. I need to work on my review better.
Although it is a variant of this idea, I teach the practical understanding of food science by basically lecturing on the topic, presenting experiments and recipes to illustrate the reaction, offer illustrations and slides which demonstrate the reaction, include references and citations in my powerpoints, and have disucssion after each class for the participants to offer their own experiences. Because these are computer or electronic classrooms, it is sometimes difficult... but the Acrobat Breeze setup is a wonderful version in comparison to others, and has three very different formats to adjust the clasroom to fit the class topic's perspective.
