learning types

it is good to get all kinds of learning types intergrated into your class

As a massage therapy instructor I really have to incorporate all learning types into my lesson plans. Even if all the learning types aren't present in my class I feel that lecturing/discussing first, then palpating the muscles we discussed, and finally re creating those muscles on 'skinny' (small skeleton) that it reinforcing the information we have went over for the week. And that way everyone has had an opportunity to learn the information in a way that best suits their learning style.

I try to instill in my students that we each have our own specific qualitites. I try to teach them to use what comes natural to them when they are trying to learn. I also give them info on how to build their other qualities. It is said that the more styles you use together the better the retention will be.

I agree wholeheartedly! I use all three styles in my classes and it works out so each student is catered to in their style of learning at on time or the other. I also try to keep a more relaxed atmosphere which seems to engage more students at a time while we interact, I lecture, and/or have training aids going around the room.

I find myself doing the same thing. Often find it keeps them interested in the topics.

Interesting, how do you integrate the different types of teaching?

David, I totally agree! Our students are great resources for each other when challenged to their fullest.

Keep up the good work!

I teach culinary and often we do see different kinds of learning types the majority of them are visual and kinesthetic. I teach for all types but find myself putting an emphasis on the visual & kinesthetic due to the type of class I teach, a production kitchen class.

I feel it makes all aspects of the class well rounded especially if you get all working and helping each other from different styles

Although it is difficult to make everyone happy, I agree that it is good to get all kinds of learning types intergrated within the class ...

I believe it makes for a much more interesting environment because even though everyone has a different preference in regards to learning, most of us have a tendency to work well under more than one type; so, multiple learning styles equals multiple teaching techniques which equals better opportunity to understand subject matter.

for the audotiry learners, I use lecture, for the visual learners, I use demonstrations, and for the kinesthetic learners I use hands on sessions

Hi Richard!

I'm interested in what teaching strategies you use to ensure all learning types are gaining knowledge. Please share.

Thanks and keep up the good work!
