Create a Case Study
Try creating an actual real life example of
a situation. Or better yet create a situation
and ask small groups of students to develop an
action plan to assess, plan and implement the
action and have a system to monitor the students
actions.
Simulations are a great teaching tool to get students ready for the real experience.
Case studies are a great way of learning outside the clinical settings
I have found this technique to be very helpful in the classroom. Teaching within the medical field, it has been ideal. I often take it one step further and place the studetns in groups, and then have them act out the different scenarios. This gets the students working together as a team, and it is amazing at the funny and creative ways they come up with to convey their findings.
I agree that creating real life situations for students to develop action plans and nursing interventions is a geat way to teach and encourage the students to use their observation skills as well as hands-on skills.
I love to use case studies during my lectures.
As part of the learning activities, incorporating case studies to their clinical experience gives them more critical thinking experience in answering the problems pesented.
This is an appropriate exercise for teaching in the hospital. I love it.
