Effectiveness of mixining games with lecture.
As an instructor combining games with lecture has proven to be very effective. When planing games pertaing to the lecture it brings out the social side of the student, and for that moment age or how long you have been in school does not seem like a problem any more.
Richard,
I too like to use games with lecture & as you said it can help keep the students' attention.

mixing games with lectures is very effective because students get excited and those with the tendency to fall asleep during the lecture get involved finding it more interesting and enjoyable
Patricia,
Glad that the ideas are of help to you. Yes the power is in the debrief!

I have used "Jeopardy" and "Family Feud" for everything from EKG recognition to school and syllabus policies. It has been a great activity but I have never done the important step of debriefing afterward. I have definitely learned something here and I am now going to add that to my lesson plan.
Anna Marie,
This is so true & I have learned that often the students who aren't as good at the game are really the ones who are benefiting the most as they stay engaged with the content.

Creating teams and having them compete is a great way to review information for an exam. This activity takes a dry process of repetition and makes learning fun.
I also enjoyy utilizing games with what we cover. It allows for fun and often times they don't even realize they are learning. Also, repitition in the game allows for moving memory from short term to long term.
Georgia,
I too like to use games & other experiential activities. The key thing to remember on these is that the power (of these activities) is in the debrief! Draw out that learning!
