Create a happy working enviorment

The students are proud of their work, espeacially what they may have put hard work into. While you are not able to display grades maby it is ok to display work.

I find that all students benefit from having their work on display. Those who created their showpieces take pride in their accomplishments. Students who see showpieces on display get excited to soon have their own creations in the spotlight.

I find that when the students see others work posted, it excites them. They then tend to become competitive and more creative. It gives them a sense of pride in their work throughout the rest of their course.

I enjoy taking a shy student and use there work in the classroom it really helps bring them out of there shell.

I agree with Maria. I focus on the positive aspects of a students actions, rather than reenforcing the negative. Students are more apt to continue the learning process if they believe that what they are working on is on the right track.

I agree. There is a certain pride that comes along with work being on display. It shows the end product of the student's time and effort.

I create a similar experience for my students. Reading microbiology cultures that mimic real case studies empowers student to know they can make a difference and it is with their knowledge and input that can improve situations and be the problem solver. This creates a confidence. Knowing you will contribute in a cooperative team structure is only possible in a happy working environment.

I truly believe we must create a happy working environment to learn. Whether it is by humor and laughter, simulations, games, immediate gratification of grades....whatever it takes. Learning new material can be overwhelming, whether at school or for your job. Happy is POSITIVE and reflects not just externally but internally. NEGATIVE is a block..period!

I like this idea. i believe that students would like to see their work displayed if they put a lot of effort into it.

these simulations really are a great way to help students get excited about the material & engage with the concepts at a whole new level.

Performing mock surgy cases and being graded, the students who show improvement or those with real hands on abilities are showcased and as a result are a benefit to both themselves and as helpers to those who may be struggling in the practical aspects of their course study and application.

Most of the time I try to show my student their grades the same day, and it makes them excited when they get a good grade, and with the others they the have to work harder, and when they do get a good grade it makes a different.

I really have enjoyed this module so far. I think that posting the students' work in the classroom is a great idea. I had never thought about where to post the work before, having never learned the topics in this module before. I think it was interesting how learning can be tied into the peripheral vision, and that material should be placed on the left side of the room while learning, and then on the right side of the room to view after the material has been taught. I didn't realize that this creates a whole new way for the student to learn. I also really liked what it said about how true learning takes place when reflection takes place. I think that posting the students' work around the room would offer the students a way to reflect on what was learned, and offer yet another way to interact with and connect to the material being taught. Great ideas!

I teach a class on pastry art and showpieces. Students learn how to create sculptures our of sugar. Students practice techniques, hundreds of years old, such as pulled sugar, blown sugar, and casting sugar. It is very easy to target multiple intelligence while teaching this craft. The kinesthetic learner fits right in with most of the projects. Visual/spatial leaners enjoy the architectural aspects of the class. Interpersonal learners can benefit from group projects. I play music during some of the labs to lift the creative juices.
All the work created by my students is put on display in the lobby of our school. We've created a sense of pride in the students with this exhibit, and it's great for marketing our school during tours.

I agree. Students need to have a high self esteem for them to be motivated to learn
