best way to learn
I learned that students love games and normally pass the exam with a high score when we play a game the day before the exam.
Playing games is not only fun for the students but is fun for the instructor as well.
Yes, they love games and so do I! Games break the monotony of being in the classroom and allows the students an opportunity for a different kind of expression. As a project assignment I sometimes give them the task of making up an original game which they must demonstrate to the class and then we play it. They really enjoy being the expert for a day!!
Joe,
I completely agree; we want to emulate the real work environment as much as possible so the more we can do this the better for the students.

I find that having the students put their hands on the equipment that is used in the line of work that they will be going into helps them to understand how to use the equipment.
Thomas,
yes the review games are a powerful way to solidify the learning & really help prepare the students for the assessments.

After this module I had memories of games that I have created as review for the final test and had great success with that. I have decided to bring that concept back and I know it will be a be hit!
I like this idea of "Jeopardy" about the subject matter and look forward to implementing it soon.
Thanks for the great idea.
William,
this is a great way to help the students review.

I also have been using games, Jeopardy with all the subjects covered. Only I do this right before the tests. I also have made a Jeopardy game that covers everthing taught in the course, before the end phase testing.
Cynthia,
and what the students don't often realize is that the prep work they put into the course actually really helps them in prepping for the test.

My class loves to play Jeopardy the day before their exams. I let the students set up the game and come up with their own categories within the subject matter. I ask the questions and then the students decide how many points the questions are worth. It is fun to watch the students stay engaged. The program director and the Dean usually come to my class for the game too. The students usually do really well on their exams and the class has a great time reflecting on the game and how the program director and Dean answered some questions.
Suzanne,
yes the competition & the challenge are a great way to stimulate the learning in our students.

I would have to agree. I like to have a review prior to the exams I give and the team with the highest score will get one extra credit point towards their exam grade. The students usually get into this because they are motivated by that extra credit point.
Students I have had, like a variety of learning techniques, with a competitive game at the top.
They love to challenge each other.
I find that students learn best by being involved in the daily lessons. They need to feel that they are an important part of the learning process and not just 'receivers' of information.
Zachary,
I agree, they do seem to pay better attention & also the competition seems to really get them engaged.

Ya i like to give a review game to review for upcoming tests. I feel the students pay more attention beacause they are having fun while also learning.
Games are a better way to review especially when they can get rewards for winning and it usually helps with the higher achievement on the test.
Yahaira,
games really can be a great way to review the material & help prepare students for the exams.
