I use power points that are a mixture of lecture, video demonstration and web links that can take students to more in depth explanation. The students have access to the power points so they can follow along, or reinforce the information at home or reflect on the info outside of class.
I have found powerpoints and videos are good to a point, but my trade students tend to loose interest quickly. Before this happens, the powerpoint is turned off and I take the class on a temporal journey through the type of refrigeration or electrical system we are learning about ~ I get them started, but let them take turns leading the class.
sahbaa,
videos can be a very helpful addition to lecture & other teaching methods. The key is to make sure that the connection to the material is clear & the students can make the connection.
