Classroom set up

Elementary, Middle school, and High School ideas in setting up a classroom for adult students should be considered to promote learning activities.

I agree, basic changes are in order since we are instructing adults. One thing I have found is that if the material is challenging, the room having an elementary feel to it can have reverse effect on the student.

I would love to be able to rearrange my classroom seating into the U or V shape. I know first hand that I learn better in that setting. Since I am unable to do this, I try to make sure that I walk throughout the classroom during class.

Brian,
yes, if you can rearrange your classroom, the U shape is a great arrangement to facilitate discussion.

In my classroom I use the U shaped setup during lecture and demonstration to help engage the students and encourage discussion. This is much more effective than students hiding out in the back and being distracted by their phones or sleeping.

Bryce,
yes, I think we should consider a wide variety of ways to engage learners & then adapt appropriately.

Well to a degree that might be true but we are not teaching elementary, middle school and high school students we are teaching adults and so some basic changes maybe necessary to engage the adult learners on their level.
