retaining memories
I work with people who are around horses. Amazing enough I find that most of my students are very passoniate about their animals. So teaching them how to care for their dental needs has been less of a stuggle for me. Most of my students have been raised with horses so it is second nature to them. Teaching in this enviroment has its advantages when it comes to students retaining the lessons taught.

I definitely think that the more we make the material relatable, the more likely students are to remember it. It's even better when they can come up with examples from their own lives.
How perceptive! We can facilitate learning but changing attitudes and behaviors is more difficult. Each individual is different bringing many different experiences which impact who they are and who they will become.
Not only are we educators but we must roll model expected and appropriate work attitudes and behaviors!
Keep up the good work!

I train students to become auto repair technicians. There are several students in every class that have the passion it takes to be great in this profession. However, being a trainer it is more of a challange to try to impart the knowledge, skills and the proper professional attitude and behavior that it requires to be an asset to an employer. I love this challenge.
I agree, it is easier to deliver instructional material when the student is passionate about what they are learning. Relating to tasks at hand and putting them into a form where as the student can relate to the subject makes it easier for them to retain the knowledge. This also allows for the class to be fun and exciting, driving the students to be more open to retaining said material.
I teach students to become boat mechanics. Most of them grew up around boats, or at least around cars, so they already know they want to retain what I teach them for the rest of their careers. It makes it so much easier.
