Marian,
I think it's something that we all need to be reminded of from time to time.

I have to admit that I've fallen into the negative zone a couple of times during my class, i.e. being tired or in a bad mood because of something unrelated. And you do notice a change in the class as a result. Definitely learning about the Pygmalion Effect was a nice slap on the wrist for me.
Peggy,
yes keeping that positive attitude really is key to helping with learning.

I totally agree!! I always tell student negative is not aloud inside the four walls of the classroom. If you have a negative attitude then you will get negative results. You will not know how to do things hence why you are in school. But it is my job as your instructor to change that. With a positive attitude you can learn anything.
I've always encouraged students to be positive. We all learn from what we've done wrong and hopefully progress from our mistakes....so there is no such thing as failure as long as we've learned from the attempt. Attitude and how we perceive ourselves has everything to do with everything!
TONIA,
this is so true. How many people believed in us & that was a tremendous help?

I totally agree with Tonia. I tell the students that right off the bat.. "weather you think you can or can't , you are right!!" I preface new topics positively and with lots of energy. I focus on the "why" they are going to need to know this for their new career. I point out as many positive things as possible and catch students doing things more right than wrong. Another great saying is "there is no try, either you do or you do not!!" The students like that and know that I expect only the best from them and they 9 times out of 10 deliver their best.
