Compounding Knowledge

I always find it useful to explain the skill set they've just acquired when learning something new. I make connections to other ideas and skills that are relatable to the topic, and point out that they're possible to obtain as well. It makes the current success appear to be even more exciting, and limits the height of upcoming challenges.

I also try to explain the newly acquired skill set. It ia a success and students are then able to classify it as such.

Rhonda,
great point you make here. This allows you to be able to recover any information that may not have been understood.

The process of reviewing what they have just learned before moving on also gives you the ability to check for understanding and being sure that everyone is clear on the previous skill. Explaining also helps to build confidence when moving on to the next skill.

Darren,
yes, this is a great strategy as it helps cement what they just learned.
