success
A successful class should not always be measured by grades it should be measured by skill. Everyone test differently.
Its best to change up on how you lecture because some students are visual learners some like you just to read so You have to change for your students benefit.
This is so true but your students should also retain the information as well if you lecture with different avenues.
William,
completely agree & the success is really measured by living up to potential, not just a grade.

Everyone has different skill levels. I also like to consider how much effort a student puts into the process and how much they actually learned. My best feeling as an instructor is to watch a student that starts out as an F student learn throughout the term and end up with a B. This is much more satisfying than the student who is not challeneged and ends up with an A.
I agree, I too have many students with reading and comprehension challahges. In some severe cases I have actually given these students exams orally. Surprising how well some of them perform.
i have many students who may lack in reading skills, so they do poorly on written tests. When tested on their performance skills of a particular class, they may do very well.
I fully agree. What are some recommendations for effectively testing students skills rather than just measuring their grades in the Career College setting?
John,
this is a great way to assess the levels of understanding & learning by the students without a quiz or test.

Getting students to open up in class and to become involved in discussions regarding subject matter allows you to rate how much is getting thru to them.
I agree 100% that everyone does learn, test, and complete homework in a different manner, that goes along with a college professor or instructor that we all teach in a different manner, and what might work for one does not always work well for another.
I agree, some of my best students have C averages because they have poor test taking skills or test anxiety or apeak English as a second language. Yet in they practical exams they excel.
