Evaluation
I evaluate my students and their ability to learn what has been lectured on a daily basis.
Yes so do I. I keep these mini assessments short to the point but interesting and connected to the content most importantly those learning objectives.
Evaluations or Assessments can be formal and/or informal-- we are not restricted as to the timing of doing the evaluations. I like to do informal assessments at the end of a class or at the beginning of the next class session.
We are moving toward evaluating the students' comprehension through more written evaluations. This will give the instructor a better analysis if the student is truly comprehending the information
teaching is a really good thing having the tool you need is great
Albert,
so true, through the mid-way evaluations we can do any "course corrections" needed.
Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
And checking in periodically and frequently gives you the best chance to make mid-term corrections in the course. Evaluations at the end of the class are most useful if it is a course I'm teaching frequently.
Morris,
yes, the periodic checking in with our students is vital to making sure they are with us.
Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Yes Kristal I agree , basically going back and checking to make sure they have an understanding of the past chapters and lectures.
brandon,
this is an excellent point & we definitely need to be conducting frequent & various types of assessments/evaluations so we can help our students as quickly as possible.
Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Students’ progress over a period of time helps in assessing and improvements or setbacks in their performance. Periodical evaluation of students is an important tool to determine whether the students are benefiting from the teaching practices being employed at educational institutions. Teachers are today experimenting with a lot many techniques, which are different from the traditional examinations and tests. These include peer assessment, classroom observation, performance assessment and self evaluation.
Kristal,
I think this is regular & rather immediate assessment is vital to the students' success.
